iPhone & iPad SDK

How much does it cost to use CloudMade’s iPhone SDK?: It’s Free! What’s more, we give you the opportunity to make money by adding CloudMade’s maps and services to your applications through location based advertising. Our location based advertising systems are currently live – you can apply to it here.
Are there any usage limits or restrictions?: We do not restrict the number of users that your app can have and your users can view as many maps, driving directions or search for as many businesses and addresses as they like. Some additional services like datasets from the Data Market Place or Offline Maps carry an additional fee.

What will happen if I break any of the terms of the Fair Use Policy: If an API key registered to you is found to be breaking any of the terms of our Fair Use Policy we will first send you an email to notify you of the details of the breach. If you don’t respond to our attempts to contact you we may place limitations on your account. Eventually we may be forced to cut off your API key. This will cause the iPhone SDK to stop working.
How can I add customised maps to my application?: You can use CloudMade’s Style Editor to add customised maps to your applications. Use of the Style Editor is free of charge for all users.
Do you have any tutorials or code samples to help me get started?: There are full step-by-step tutorials on the iPhone SDK developer page.

Can I add offline maps to my application using your iPhone SDK?: To add offline maps from CloudMade to your application, you need to be subscribed to our “Mass Downloads” service. You can find out more details about adding offline maps support to your iPhone application from the Offline Maps FAQ
Can I draw polygons and polylines using CloudMade’s iPhone SDK?: This forum thread has some useful tips about drawing polygons and polylines using the iPhone SDK.
What is the difference between CloudMade’s iPhone SDK and Apple’s MapKit?: CloudMade’s iPhone SDK is simliar to Apple’s MapKit – it lets you easily add maps, overlays and annotations to an iPhone application. But CloudMade’s iPhone SDK offers far more functionality than Apple’s MapKit. For example, you can add customised map styles using our Style Editor, add address search (geocoding) and local search, as well as routing and driving directions. Does the Apple iPhone SDK Developer Agreement allow the use of CloudMade’s iPhone SDK?: Yes. CloudMade’s iPhone SDK is compliant with Apple’s most recent (OS 4.0) Developer Agreement.

If I have my own ad partners can I add their ads to my app using your iPhone SDK?: You can add your own advertising into your app, so long as you do not block any of CloudMade’s advertising. If you wish to completely remove CloudMade’s advertising, you should take a look at our iPhone SDK Select.
I only want to use reverse geocoding / geocoding / routing in my application, I do not want to show a map. Can I still use your free plan?: If you use CloudMade’s iPhone SDK to build your application and if you agree to place advertising into your application when it becomes available later this year you may use only geocoding, or reverse geocoding, or routing or local search – or any of the other services accessible from the iPhone SDK free of charge, subject to our fair use policy . If you are accessing the services via the HTTP APIs your use is subject to limitations described on the Specialist Tools FAQ page.
